REVIEW: Totally His by Erin Nicholas

Actress Sophie Birch is used to having to look out for herself. So when her theater catches fire and a big guy scoops her up into his arms to save her, she’s going to fight every step of the way. Even if he’s a cop. And really sexy. And his arms feel oh-so-good.

Finn Kelly can’t help but appreciate how good the woman in his arms looks in her sexy pink lingerie. Even if she’s currently resisting arrest.

But as the two get to know each other, they’re both surprised by the things Finn is willing to do to get closer to her. And when Sophie’s estranged father arrives in town and starts causing trouble, the stage is set for disaster…unless Finn can convince her that, for once in her life, she has someone to lean on.

**Note: I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Totally His is the second Erin Nicholas book I have reviewed on my blog, and is part of her Opposites Attract series.

The first Erin Nicholas book I reviewed was Turned Up(you can click on the link to go to that review). It was my first experience with her writing style, which is not an uncommon one, but was new to me (third person, dual point of view). I struggled with it the first time around, but this time, it was like going home. So many romance novels are written in first person, and I really have enjoyed coming back to this style this time around.

Erin Nicholas has a gift for putting together disaster and romance and coming up with brilliance! Totally His is no different. Add to that her ability to write totally unique, strong, and relatable characters, and this book is another winner for me!

In this book, Sophie is the character I appreciated the most. She is a woman who was strong, sassy and didn’t take anyone’s crap. But what I really loved–that admittedly may be a very personal preference–was that she was a theater owner! As a theater-nerd myself (and proud of it, thank you very much), I appreciated, so much, the concept of a woman owning and doing her own theater-thing. The fact that an entire romance revolves around her and her theater are just the icing on the cake.

From the very first interaction between Finn and Sophie, you’re never quite sure if the two of them will end up together, and that, for me, made this an impossible book to put down. I’ve grown accustomed to finding a Happily Ever After at the end of a romance, but I never felt like that was a guarantee in this book, and that made it all the more intriguing.

Add to that, Erin’s gift of writing not just main characters who you will love and root for, but an entire community-worth of characters you can’t help but adopt as your own friends and family, and it’s no surprise that this book was a winner for me!

I would totally recommend this book (along with any of Erin Nicholas’ other books) if you enjoy plenty of drama, a cast of characters you can’t help but love (even the seemingly unredeemable ones) and steamy, passionate romance that will make you blush (in a totally good way)!
